Our Hot Peppers come packed in highly-refined soybean oil, which holds their flavor. But if you would like less of it, just ask us to drain the peppers for you.
What makes your hummus "zippy?"
Our hummus is made with some of the oil from our hot peppers to add a little spice. If you're not sure whether you'll like it, just ask for your hummus on the side. If you're a fan of our peppers, you'll love our hummus.

Why don’t you offer BIGS/SKINNYS in all of your shops?
When we open up shops in a new part of the country, we start with a base menu, which allows us to ensure that the shop team is able to deliver a great experience to all of our customers. Once we feel that the shop is ready, we look at introducing other options.
What’s the difference between an Original, BIGS, SKINNYS? And thin-cut?
• The Originals is available in all of our shops, and is what you see on our main menu board.
• A BIGS is 1/3 more bread, meat, cheese and toppings, and you can get any sandwich in a BIGS as long as you’re in a market
that carries the BIGS bread.
• SKINNY sandwiches are a slimmed-down version of our famous Originals, so you get 1/3 less bread, meat and cheese
(and they make a good pairing with a side of soup). We offer 3 SKINNY Sandwiches: T-K-Y, Mushroom Melt & Hammie.
• “Thin-cut” is how we cut our bread if you don’t want quite as much of it—instead of just cutting it in half, we take out 1/3 of
the bread. Same great taste, but fewer carbs! You can get any Originals or BIGS thin-cut (our SKINNYS already come that
What if I don't want one of the salad toppings, can I leave it off?
Of course! All of our salads are made to order. Just tell our team what topping you don't want and we'll be happy to oblige.
Can I swap Feta Cheese for Blue Cheese in my salad?
You sure can! You can ask for our salad made with any of our cheeses.
I'm a vegetarian. Do any of your salads come without meat?
Our salad menu has lots to offer our vegetarian fans! Our Chickpea Veggie Salad has loads of chickpeas (not only yummy, but full of protein) and is topped with fresh cucumbers, grape tomatoes, diced red onions, crumbled blue cheese and chopped eggs. Or we can make you an Uptown without the chicken for a delicious vegetarian feast filled with fruits, nuts and cheese. And if you want something else, just let us know. We're happy to help you get the salad you crave.
What kind of lettuce do you use in your salads?
We use a mix of spinach, romaine and iceberg lettuce. We added spinach after hearing from our fans that they would like some greener greens.
Can I get just spinach—or just lettuce—instead of the mix?
Our greener greens are all mixed together, but if you ask, we'll do our best!
Can I get croutons on my salad?
Yes you can and we are happy to give them to you at no extra charge — just ask!
Are your salad dressings gluten free?
Yes they are! All of our salad dressings are gluten free, and as long as you do not get croutons, your entire salad can be gluten free! For more information on nutrition or allergens in our dressings, please visit our Nutrition Calculator page.
Why are you called “Potbelly?”
Potbelly Sandwich Shop began in 1977 as a small antique store in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood, where the owner also refurbished antique potbelly stoves. During the late 1970s, the owners decided to try and boost business by making sandwiches for their customers. The sandwiches were a hit, and the small antique shop was transformed into an old-fashioned, neighborhood-friendly sandwich joint named after the stove. And the rest is history! Learn more about our story.
