On
Friday, October 7th, Chicago recording artist and Rock for Reading
founder Alice Peacock performed songs from her soon-to-be released
CD and co-hosted the live WXRT broadcast with DJ Lin Brehmer.
The line was out of the
door and fans cleared seating space on the floor to catch some of
the performances. Recording artists Tegan and Sara also joined in
the fun and gave a great performance. Finally, Rock & Roll Hall
of Fame member Steve Winwood made an appearance to promote his House
of Blues concert benefiting the American Red Cross for hurricane
relief. During the breaks, Alice and Steve signed autographs and
took pictures with fans. Potbelly Sandwich Works donated $1 for
every sandwich sold from Noon-2pm, at our Monroe Street store, to
Rock for
Reading. Rock for Reading is a non-profit organization dedicated
to fighting the rising trend of illiteracy and to renewing interest
in reading through a series of high profile musical concerts. |

Plano Free Day – We've got bears!

We celebrated our recent opening in Plano, Texas with a Free Day
on October 5th. Hundreds of folks, including Plano Mayor Pat Evans,
showed up to sample our sandwiches and shakes. Best of all, we
collected donations for Presbyterian Hospital of Plano’s
Teddy Bear Project. This volunteer-led initiative gives a stuffed
animal to children brought to the hospital for emergency care
or surgery.
Over the 4-hour event, we gave away over 1,000 sandwiches and
collected almost $2,000. That’s a lot of Teddy Bears! Thanks,
Plano! |

Music Education Programs
Music has always been an important part of the Potbelly experience.
Since the beginning, local musicians have performed in all of our
Potbelly sandwich shops. Recently, Potbelly partnered with MusicFriends,
an organization that strives to ensure all children have access
to high-quality music education.
As part of our commitment to music education, Potbelly Sandwich
Works has launched a new “Congress Card” Campaign. Self-addressed
post cards, which highlight the current (and dire) state of music-education
funding, have been posted in all 13 Washington, D.C.-area Potbelly
shops. Potbelly customers can let their local Congresspeople know
that they back increased support for music education by simply filling
out a card and dropping it into the convenient in-store collection
box. All completed cards will be mailed to area Congressional representatives.
“Music truly nourishes the soul,” said Potbelly
Sandwich Works CEO Bryant Keil. “As an organization, we love
music and are constantly seeking ways to expand everyone’s
access and exposure to all forms of music.”
The Congress Card Campaign will remain in Potbelly’s DC-area
locations until May 31, 2004. To find out more about the campaign,
visit your local Potbelly location. To learn other ways to support
music education, visit menc.org. |

Rockford $1 Sandwich Day
Less than a month after opening its doors, our Rockford Potbelly
raised more than $1,000 for OSF St. Anthony’s Medical Center.
Potbelly teamed with the local hospital for a $1 Sandwich Day on
April 13, 2004, to help spread the love of music to some very special
people. All proceeds from the sandwiches were donated to the medical
center to provide radios for patients in the Neurological Intensive
Care Unit as a way to enhance patient recovery through music.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., nearly 900 sandwiches were made to feed
the hungry folks of Rockford. Potbelly’s generous customers
donated more than enough to meet the goal of $1,000 for the radio
